Longhorns went 3-0 last week with wins over Maryland, Tennessee and Ole Miss.
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas women's basketball has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Team of the Week after the Longhorns went 3-0 this past week with back-to-back wins over ranked opponents.
Texas started the week with an 89-51 win over No. 8 Maryland in the Coretta Scott King Classic, their largest margin of victory over a top-10 team in program history. The Longhorns came home to host Tennessee and won 80-76 over the No. 17 Lady Vols. Texas went on the road on Sunday to Ole Miss and came out with a 61-58 victory.
Taylor Jones was named the SEC Player of the Week and Madison Booker earned Naismith Trophy Player of the Week honors.
Jones tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 14 rebounds in the win over Tennessee. Booker led Texas with 28 points on 13-of-19 shooting in the win over Maryland and came back for 26 points in the victory over Tennessee. Against Ole Miss, Jones scored 24 points and added six rebounds and three blocks and Booker had 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
The 20-2 start for Texas is their best since the 2015-16 season and for head coach Vic Schaefer he has guided teams to 20 or more wins in 12 straight seasons.
Up next the Longhorns host Missouri on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 8:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
