Legout went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles with three ranked wins in leading the Longhorns to an ITA Kickoff regional championship.
Austin – Texas Men's Tennis freshman Timo Legout was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. It is his first career conference award and also the first SEC award ever for the program.
Legout went a combined 4-0, all at No. 1 singles and doubles, including three ranked wins, and only dropped a total of nine games in leading Texas to wins over Rice and Georgia Tech to claim the ITA Kickoff Weekend regional title. It also advanced the Longhorns to the ITA National Indoor Championships for the seventh-straight year.
Legout was off the court first in singles in both matches, producing decisive wins over Arthus de la Bassetiere of Rice, 6-2, 6-1, and No. 90 Nate Bonetto of Georgia Tech, 6-1, 6-1. The match against Bonetto included a 10-0 run with only one of those games even reaching deuce.
Legout and his partner Lucas Brown, who are the No. 7 ranked doubles pair in the nation, also factored into both doubles points with ranked wins, including a 6-0 sweep over No. 43 Bassetiere and Kabeer Kapasi of Rice to be first off the doubles court in that match, and then clinching the point against Georgia Tech with a 6-4 win over No. 19 Krish Arora and Christophe Clement.
Legout is now 3-0 in dual match singles contests this season and 15-1 overall in the 2024-25 year. His win over Bonetto is already his ninth over a ranked foe, which includes two top-five wins and three in the top-20. In doubles, he is 2-1 in dual matches and 13-2 overall, primarily with Brown, with the two ranked victories this week giving him four total with three of those in top-20.
