The Longhorns win 14 events in their first dual meet of the season.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The No. 3 Texas Men's Swimming and Diving team earned a decisive 216–82 victory over Alabama on Friday at the Alabama Natatorium. The Longhorns won 14 of 16 events, led by strong performances from David Johnston, Rex Maurer and Nick Harris.
Johnston opened the meet with a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching first in 8:43.95, then added another victory in the 500 free with a 4:14.08 finish. Maurer followed with a win in the 200 individual medley (1:42.78) and placed second in the 200 backstroke (1:41.03).
Will Modglin led a 1–3 Texas finish in the 100 backstroke, winning in 45.07, while Nate Germonprez, Campbell McKean and Will Scholtz swept the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke with times of 51.87, 51.93 and 52.80. McKean later added a win in the 200 breaststroke at 1:53.38, followed by Scholtz in second at 1:53.92.
Rafael Fente-Damers swept the sprint events, winning the 50 freestyle in 19.37 and the 100 freestyle in 42.40, while Ryan Branon captured the 100 butterfly in 46.33 and Cooper Lucas won the 200 butterfly in 1:42.35.
On the boards, Nick Harris swept both diving events, posting 373.13 points on the 1-meter and 399.53 on the 3-meter.
Texas closed the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Fente-Damers, Germonprez, Garrett Gould and Modglin combined for a 2:50.92 finish.
The Longhorns return home to face Tennessee on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. CT, with finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
