Women’s Tennis completes ITA Texas Regionals with three in round of 16

The Longhorns had two singles players and one doubles pair advance two rounds in Fort Worth.
Fort Worth – Texas Women's Tennis completed play at the ITA Texas Regionals in Fort Worth with singles players and one doubles pair reaching the main draw rounds of 16 in the tournament from Thursday through Saturday.
Five players in all were in the overall draw with sophomore Salma Drugdova and freshman Christasha McNeil making the round of 16 in singles, while also partnering to do so in doubles.
Drugdova first defeated Elena Mireles of SMU, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4, and followed with win over 9 seed Elizaveta Morozova of Houston, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. However, Drugdova was downed in the next round by 8 seed No. 120 Darya Schwartzman of Rice, including a first-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
McNeil opened with a 6-2, 6-7 (4), 6-3 win over Sophie Schouten of Houston, and then topped Allie Bittner of SMU, 6-3, 6-1. She was downed by the same score by the top seed No. 22 Mia Kupres of Texas A&M.
Drugdova and McNeil combined to win their round of 32 doubles match on Friday over Caroline McGinley and Elena Mireles of SMU, 8-4, but were downed by the same score by 9 seed Jemma Cave and Ksenia Mamontova of Stephen F. Austin.
Freshman Mathilde Ngijol-Carré advanced to the singles round of 32 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Gabriela Cortes of Houston before falling to 7 seed No. 102 Zuzanna Kubacha of Baylor, 7-6 (1), 6-0. She had been scheduled to play doubles with sophomore Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo, but the duo withdraw due to injury.
Redshirt freshman Audrey Deatherage had also been in the singles qualifying draw earlier in the tournament but dropped her match to 9 seed Nayuma Subba of Sam Houston, 6-0, 6-0.
