Three Longhorns combined for 44 points in Texas' 120-65 win over No. 6 Tennessee.
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Texas student-athletes Rex Maurer, Nick Harris and Campbell McKean earned Southeastern Conference weekly distinction, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Maurer collected SEC Swimmer of the Week recognition, Harris garnered SEC Diver of the Week honors and McKean was named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
A junior from Pasadena, Calif., Maurer had a strong showing, capturing the 1,000-yard freestyle (8:42.95) and 400-yard individual medley (3:41.19) to contribute 18 points in the Longhorns' win over the sixth-ranked Volunteers. Maurer's 1,000 freestyle finish is the third-best time in the nation.
Harris — who hails from Chester Springs, Pa. — continued his dominant start to the season with another standout performance against Tennessee. The senior secured the 3-meter dive with 417.60 points and placed second in the 1-meter with a score of 380.03. Harris has now won two 3-meter events this season and finished second or better in every 1-meter event, totaling 18 points in the victory.
A native of Bend, Ore., McKean added eight points in Texas' win over the Volunteers, placing second in both the 200-yard breaststroke (1:53.38) and 400-yard medley relay (51.04 split). The freshman has now placed second or higher in the 200-yard breaststroke through two dual meets.
The Longhorns resume competition Nov. 13-15 for the Texas Diving Invitational at the Joe and Lee Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Prelims are set for 10 a.m., with finals to follow at 6:00 p.m. CT.
