Elizabeth Ionescu of York, Pa., and Kate Mansfield of London, England, will join the program in January.
Austin – University of Texas Women's Tennis has signed standouts Elizabeth Ionescu and Kate Mansfield to Athletic Scholarship Agreements (ASA), head coach Howard Joffe announced Friday. Both will join the team in the spring of 2026.
"Elizabeth Ionescu is the embodiment and epitome of the term 'Blue Chip' recruit," Joffe said. "Elizabeth is a superb athlete, who is gifted with tennis skills and ability. She is also deeply resourced as a young person. She is tough, feisty, competitive, kind, humorous, smart and driven. I know our team is excited to have her starting this spring, and my intention is to work with her to actualize her goals. I'm so grateful to her parents Simona and Florin for the trust they have put in Texas and our program."
"Kate Mansfield is someone we were very fortunate to find," Joffe said. "Kate has all the resources that make people great in whatever field they choose. She is very smart, driven, tenacious and determined. She also happens to have exceptional tennis talent with a pro style game. I know that her teammates, coaches and our staff are thrilled to have her join our family soon. We can't thank her parents, Walter and Nicole, as well as her coach and close friend Alejo Mancisidor, enough for their faith in our staff and program. I intend to work diligently with Kate in the service of her goals, and I anticipate great things ahead."
