The Longhorns jumped out to a 12-8 lead following a Swain put-back at the 12:10 mark. Duke responded with a 15-2 spurt over the next three minutes to build a 23-14 cushion after an Isaiah Evans dunk with 9:08 remaining.
A Darren Harris three-pointer gave the Blue Devils a 26-17 advantage at the 7:55 mark, before Texas used a 10-3 spurt over the next three-and-a-half minutes to cut the deficit to 29-27 following a pair of free throws by Vokietaitis with 4:12 left. An Evans free throw provided Duke with a 32-29 cushion at the 2:51 mark, before the Longhorns used a pair of Vokietaitis free throws and a Nic Codie turnaround jumper to take a 33-32 lead into the break. Texas posted a 25-15 rebound margin, including a 12-6 edge on the offensive glass, in the opening 20 minutes.
Duke opened the second half with an 10-0 run over the first five minutes to build a 42-33 advantage after a pair of Cameron Boozer free throws with 15:08 remaining.
