Longhorns' defense holds Georgia to 10 second-half points in Monday's road victory.
ATHENS, Ga. — The Texas defense held Georgia to single digits for three of the four quarters as they picked up their 13th Southeastern Conference victory with a 57-26 win over Georgia on Monday.
Texas post player Taylor Jones recorded her seventh double-double of the season with a season-high 16 rebounds, 17 points, and a season-high five blocks with help from guard Rori Harmon and forward Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda who combined for 20 points.
Harmon became the first player in Texas women's basketball history to reach 1,200 points and 600 assists.
In the opening period, Texas built an 11-5 advantage over Georgia, including a 9-0 scoring run. During this first period, the Lady Bulldogs only scored one field goal.
Taylor Jones opened the second quarter with a second-chance basket after collecting her seventh rebound of the game. Texas dominated the glass in the first half, holding a 22-9 advantage that helped the Longhorns secure a 20-16 lead at halftime. Harmon led the team in scoring through the break, posting seven points on 3-of-5 shooting.
After Georgia hit the first shot of the second half, Texas went on a 6-0 run led by Jones' three consecutive baskets at the rim, giving Texas a 26-18 lead. Texas finished the third period on a buzzer beating putback from Mwenentanda, putting Texas up 34-22 going into the final quarter.
Texas finished the final 4:13 minutes of the game with a 10-0 run, securing them the 57-26 victory over the Lady Bulldogs, holding Georgia to 38 points below their season scoring average.
