Four Texas players scored in double figures on Thursday.
STARKVILLE, Miss. — Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda recorded a season-high 15 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, while Shay Holle tied her season-high with 16 points, all scored in the second half on 6-for-8 shooting. Rori Harmon and Madison Booker combined for 22 points, as the Texas women's basketball team earned a 68-64 road win at Mississippi State.
Holle established a program record for games played as she played in her 162nd game of her career at Texas.
In the opening period, Harmon scored five points, including a 3-point jumper, while Texas' defense held Mississippi State without a field goal for the first 7:13 of the game.
Heading into halftime, Texas made its final four field goals, with Mwenentanda leading the Longhorns in scoring with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting, despite trailing 26-27.
Taylor Jones scored Texas' first bucket of the second half with a second-chance basket taking the lead over Mississippi State 28-27.
During the third quarter, guard Shay Holle kept Texas in the game by scoring eight points, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range, helping the Longhorns take a 49-48 lead over the Bulldogs heading into the final quarter.
At the 3:49 mark of the fourth period, Holle hit her fourth 3-pointer of the game giving Texas an eight point lead over Mississippi State. After a layup from Booker, Kyla Oldacre was intentionally fouled and secured the win for Texas at the line with a game winning free throw to defeat the Bulldogs 68-64.
Up next, the Longhorns host Florida on Sunday, March 2 at 1:00 PM CT at Moody Center. This game will be televised on the SEC Network.
