Women’s Basketball earns No. 1 seed, will host first and second rounds in Austin

Longhorns captured 2025 SEC regular season championship in first season in the league.
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas women's basketball team earned a No. 1 seed and will host the first and second round of the 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament at Moody Center next week.
This marks the first time since 1987-88 that Texas has earned No. 1 seeds in back-to-back tournaments.
The Longhorns will take on the winner of a first four game between High Point and William & Mary in the first round on Saturday, March 22. That first round game will be hosted at Moody Center.
The other teams coming to Austin will be No. 8 seed Illinois and No. 9 seed Creighton. Times for the games will be forthcoming.
Texas will make their 37th appearance in the NCAA tournament, which is tied for second most among all NCAA DI teams.
The Longhorns are 31-3 on the season and have won 15 of their last 16 games. Texas has a 15-0 record at Moody Center this season.
Texas head coach Vic Schaefer earned SEC Coach of the Year honors and is a semifinalist for the Naismith national Coach of the Year award. Madison Booker earned SEC Player of the Year honors and is a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy, which goes to the national player of the year. Rori Harmon is a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award. Booker, Harmon and Taylor Jones are all finalists for national position awards.
