Booker and Jones combine for 39 points in Saturday's NCAA Tournament First Round victory.
AUSTIN, Texas — Madison Booker recorded her tenth career double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds as Texas started the NCAA Tournament with a 105-61 victory over William & Mary on Saturday at Moody Center.
Taylor Jones scored 19 points, Kyla Oldacre added 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Jordan Lee contributed 13 points. Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda recorded 10 points.
Texas established the lead in the first quarter with Taylor Jones and Madison Booker scoring 13 combined points, concluding the opening period 23-18.
Going into halftime, the Longhorns showcased their defense by racking up seven steals, with Madison Booker leading Texas in scoring with 12 points and Kyla Oldacre grabbing six rebounds, putting Texas up 50-33 against William & Mary.
Starting the second half, Madison Booker scored a jumper to extend Texas' lead 52-33, with Taylor Jones blocking two consecutive shots against William & Mary. Texas then went on a 13-2 run over the last 4:22 minutes to finish the third period 77-44.
During the final period, Texas held the Tribe to zero field goals in the last 2:37 minutes and Jordan Lee and Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda combined 18 points and finished out the game 105-61 to move onto the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
Up next, the Longhorns will face Illinois in The Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament on March 24 at 1:00 PM CT. This game will be televised on ESPN 2.
