Men’s Swim and Dive sets school records in 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays, sits in first following opening night

The Longhorns won the 200 medley relay and finished runner-up in the 800 free relay on the first day of the NCAA Championships.
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Texas Men's Swimming and Diving utilized a victory in the 200 medley relay and a runner-up finish in the 800 freestyle relay to take the early lead on the opening night of the 2025 NCAA Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center on Wednesday. Texas has compiled 74 total points through two events, leading second-place California (72) by two points.
The Longhorns initiated the national meet with a new program record in the 200 medley relay after winning the event in 1:20.28. The quartet of Will Modglin, Nate Germonprez, Hubert Kós and Chris Guiliano combined for the victory after Florida was disqualified for an early takeoff. Texas finished ahead of runner-up Tennessee (1:20.50), third-place California (1:20.76), fourth-place Arizona State (1:20.87), fifth-place Indiana (1:20.92), sixth-place NC State (1:21.16), seventh-place Florida State (1:21.60) and eighth-place Georgia (1:22.01).

The Texas 800 free relay team of Luke Hobson, Guiliano, Rex Maurer and Coby Carrozza demolished their own school record, which was set at the 2025 SEC Championships last month, while establishing a new American record in their runner-up finish Wednesday night. The quartet threw down a time of 6:00.08, trimming over three seconds off their previous program record of 6:03.24.

Up next, Texas returns to the pool at Noon CT Thursday for 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free prelims. Prelims for the 1-meter will begin at 2 p.m. with the consolation finals set for 7:15 p.m. Finals for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter and 200 free relay are set for 8 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+.
