BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– Madison Booker and Rori Harmon combined for 31 points, while Kyla Oldacre added nine points to help the Longhorns advance to their fourth Final Four in program history. This marks Texas head coach Vic Schaefer's third Final Four appearance as a head coach.
Taylor Jones opened the scoring for both teams in the first period with a layup in the paint, followed by guard Rori Harmon sinking back to back jumpers, including a three pointer, to lead TCU 7-1 half way through the opening quarter. To close out the period, the Longhorns showcased their defensive strength by forcing the Horn Frogs into eight turnovers, marking the 26th time Texas has held an opponent to single digits for a quarter, and securing a 13-9 lead.
Starting the second period, guard Shay Holle sank a mid-range jumper, extending Texas' lead 15-9. To close out the first half, the Longhorns limited the Horn Frogs into shooting only 25 percent on the field and Harmon led the team with 11 points and two steals to help put Texas up 23-21 against TCU.
Setting the tone for the second half, Jones scored a running layup to put Texas up 25-21 over TCU. After forcing TCU's third inbound violation, Texas regained possession and guard Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda drew a foul on a layup, converting the and-one free throw to expand the Longhorns lead 35-31 at the 3:15 mark. During the final minute, freshman guard Jordan Lee sank a three point shot and followed by forward Madison Booker converting an and-one jumper to put the Longhorns up front at 42-33 going into the fourth period on a 10-2 run.
To start the final period, post-player Kyla Oldacre sank a contested mid-range jumper, moments later, she stole the inbound pass, drove to the rim, and finished with a layup while drawing a foul, converting the and-one free throw to extend Texas' lead to 47-36. The Longhorns went on to secure a spot in their first Final Four since the 2002-03 season after defeating TCU 58-47.
Up next, the Longhorns will face South Carolina in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament on April 4th, 6:00 PM CT. This game will be televised on ESPN.
