No. 7 Beach Volleyball wins two of three matches to open Lone Star Invitational

The Longhorns shutout Southern Mississippi twice on Friday.
AUSTIN, Texas - No. 7 Texas Beach Volleyball posted a 2-1 record on day one of the Lone Star Invitational on Friday at the Wright-Whitaker Sports Complex. The Longhorns opened the day with a 5-0 sweep over Southern Mississippi before dropping a 3-2 decision to No. 6 Cal Poly. Texas later earned a second 5-0 sweep against Southern Mississippi on Friday night.
In Friday's first match against Southern Mississippi, Texas built an early 2-0 advantage on the strength of a 21-8, 21-14 win from Macey Butler and Noa Sonneville on the No. 4 court and a 16-21, 21-10, 15-8 win from Emma Grace Robertson and Katie Hashman on the No. 2 court. The No. 5 pair of Hannah Ogden and Kylie Wickley added a 24-22, 21-16 win followed by a 21-7, 18-21,15-13 win from the No. 3 pair of Maddison Parmelly and Karin Zolnercikova. Chloe Charles and Eva Liisa Kuivonen solidified the sweep against the Golden Eagles with a 21-6, 21-14 win on the No. 1 court.
During UT's second match of the day, Cal Poly grabbed a 2-0 lead over the Longhorns with wins against the No. 4 (Butler/Sonneville) and No. 2 (Robertson/Hashman) pairs, 21-14, 21-18 and 21-17, 21-19. The No. 3 pair of Parmelly and Zolnercikoa added a point for the Longhorns, 21-19, 21-18. In the dual-clinching match, the No. 1 pair of Charles and Kuivonen fell just short to the Mustangs, 15-21, 18-21. In a three set battle, Ava Patton and Vivian Johnson secured the final point for the Longhorns, 19-21, 21-18, 15-12, on the No. 5 court.
In its second match of the day against the Golden Eagles, Texas took a 2-0 lead with wins from the No. 2 (Robertson/Hashman) and No. 4 (Patton/Johnson) pairs, 21-14, 21-17 and 21-17, 21-18. Charles and Kuivonen added a 21-10, 21-12 win on the No. 1 court followed by a 21-13, 21-10 win from Ogden and Wickley on the No. 5 court. The No. 3 pair of Parmelly and Zolnercikova completed the sweep for the Longhorns with a 21-17, 11-21, 15-9 win.
Texas were a perfect 6-0 on Friday on the No. 3 and No. 5 courts with impressive performances from the pairs of Parmelly and Zolnercikova, Ogden and Wickley, and Patton and Johnson.
The Longhorns return to action at the Lone Star Invitational on Saturday, April 19, when they face No. 17 North Florida in the final regular-season match of the 2025 season. First serve is set for Noon CT at the Wright-Whitaker Sports Complex.
