Madison Booker is one of five finalists for national player of the year award.
LOS ANGELES — University of Texas women's basketball sophomore Madison Booker has been selected one of five finalists for the 2025 John R. Wooden Award, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced.
This season Booker has been named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press and the SEC Player of the Year. In 2024 Booker earned Big 12 Player of the Year as a freshman and was a WBCA First Team All-American. Booker earned the 2024 Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award and is a finalist for that award this season.
In the NCAA tournament four games Booker is averaging 18.8 points and grabbing 8.0 rebounds per game. Booker is shooting 50.8 percent from the field in those games.
Booker has scored 20 or more points in 14 games this season and has scored in double figures in 31 games. Her rebounding has improved as she has the most double figure rebounding games of anyone on the Texas team with eight this season.
As an incredibly efficient player, Booker is shooting 46.5 percent from the field on the season, 41.0 percent from 3-point range and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line. In the Longhorns last eight games against ranked opponents, including five wins against top-10 teams, Booker is averaging 20.5 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free-throw line.
