No. 5/2 Track and Field wins three events at Tom Tellez Invite

Akala Garrett, Carleta Bernard and Kendrick Smallwood post fastest times in prelims.
HOUSTON, Texas – The No. 5/2 Texas Track and Field team claimed three events on the first day of the Tom Tellez Invite at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Junior Isabella Coscetti won the women's pole vault after clearing 4.03m (13-2.50) on her first attempt. Sophomore Sophia Kowalski needed three attempts to clear the height and finished second overall. In the men's pole vault, freshman Sam Abati cleared 5.08m (16-8) on his first attempt to finish as the top collegian and was second overall.
The Longhorns later swept the 400-meter dash after freshman Mackenzie Collins won the timed final with a time of 53.90 from lane two. Kody Blackwood won the men's 400m with his personal best time of 46.60.
Texas also posted the fastest prelims times in the men's and women's 100-meter dash and the women's 100-meter hurdles. After breaking the 110-meter hurdle program record last weekend, Kendrick Smallwood opened the 100-meter dash in a wind-aided time of 10.18. Xavier Butler had the second-fastest time in 10.26, while Solomon Washington was seventh in 10.49 and Brennen McHenry was eighth in 10.60.
The women were led by Carleta Bernard's wind-aided time of 11.14 in the 100m prelims. Holly Okuku was second in 11.35, Nita Koom-Dadie in fifth (11.49) and Micayah Holland was eighth in 11.81. All four times were wind-aided.
Sophomore Akala Garrett later ran the fastest 100-meter hurdles time for the women in 13.06. She'll compete in tomorrow's final.
In discus, Meredith Adams was the runner-up with a throw of 49.19m (161-04). Nina Ndubuisi was third at 48.66m and Chrystal Herpin was fourth (46.51m). Banks Goodmanson was third with a personal best mark of 51.37m (168-06).
