AUSTIN, Texas — Camden Heide has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Sean Miller announced Thursday. Heide, who spent the last two years playing at Purdue University, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Heide (6-7, 205), a forward from Wayzata, Minn., has played in 75 career games (eight starts) and registered 295 points (3.9 ppg) and 205 rebounds (2.7 rpg) in 1,190 minutes (15.9 mpg) over the last two years at Purdue. He has converted 52.8-percent (103-195) from the floor, including a 41.2-percent mark (49-119) from three-point range, and 78.4-percent (40-51) from the free throw line while reaching double figures in scoring seven times during his first two collegiate seasons. Heide has two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
During his sophomore season in 2024-25 at Purdue, Heide played in all 36 games (eight starts) and ranked third on the team in rebounding (3.6 rpg), fourth in minutes (19.6 mpg) and seventh in scoring (4.7 ppg) while helping the Boilermakers post a 24-12 record (13-7 Big Ten) and advance to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. He converted 49.1-percent (54-110) from the floor, including a 39.2-percent mark (31-79) from three-point range, and 80.6-percent (29-36) from the free throw line. Heide reached double figures in scoring four times, including a season-high 15 points (5-8 FG, 4-4 FT) in the home win against Maryland (Dec. 8) and 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-5 threes, 3-4 FT) in a neutral-site victory over NC State (Nov. 28). He grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in 30 minutes during a Big Ten Tournament win against Southern California (Mar. 13) and recorded a double-double with 11 points (4-6 FG, 2-4 threes) and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes during the NCAA Tournament First Round victory over High Point (Mar. 20).
As a freshman in 2023-24, Heide played in all 39 games and averaged 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per contest while helping the Boilermakers post a 34-5 record, claim the Big Ten regular-season championship (17-3), advance to the NCAA Championship Game and earn a No. 2 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. A Big Ten All-Academic Team selection, he converted 57.6-percent (49-85) from the floor, including a 45.0-percent mark (18-40) from three-point range, and posted the best effective field goal percentage (.682) of any high-major freshman in the nation with a minimum of 75 field goal attempts. Heide was one of just two players nationally to shoot at least 65.0-percent from two-point range and 45.0-percent from three-point range on the year, joined by Hofstra's German Platnikov. His follow-slam in the National Championship game against Connecticut was tabbed the No. 1 play of the day on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10. Heide registered a career-high 18 points (7-7 FG, 4-4 threes) in the home victory over Rutgers (Feb. 22) and added 10 points (4-6 FG) and three rebounds in 15 minutes during the NCAA Tournament Second Round win against Utah State (Mar. 24). He redshirted the 2022-23 season while recovering from a foot injury.
Heide played basketball for Wayzata High School in Wayzata, Minn., from his eighth-grade year through his junior season. He was the first eighth-grader in school history to compete on the Wayzata High School team. In his junior season, Heide averaged nearly 18 points and six rebounds per contest and shot over 40-percent from three-point range while leading Wayzata to the 2021 Minnesota State Championship. Ranked as the top player in the Class of 2022 in the state of Minnesota, Heide elected to transfer to Wasatch Academy (Mount Pleasant, Utah) for his senior season and missed the majority of the 2021-22 season with a foot injury. He was one of 18 finalists for USA Basketball's Under-16 National Team in May 2019.
