AUSTIN, Texas — Dailyn Swain has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball next season at The University of Texas, head coach Sean Miller announced Thursday. Swain, who spent the last two years playing for Miller at Xavier University, will join the Longhorns for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Swain (6-8, 220), a guard/forward from Columbus, Ohio, has played in 63 career games (36 starts) and registered 505 points (8.0 ppg), 274 rebounds (4.3 rpg), 125 assists (2.0 apg) and 83 steals (1.3 spg) in 1,517 minutes (24.1 mpg) over the last two years at Xavier. He has converted 51.0-percent (185-363) from the floor and 81.6-percent (124-152) from the free throw line during his first two collegiate seasons. Swain has reached double figures in scoring 25 times in his career and reached double digits in rebounds three times while posting three career double-doubles. He has two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
During his sophomore season in 2024-25 at Xavier, Swain played in all 34 games (33 starts) and led the team in steals (53, 1.56 spg), ranked second in rebounding (5.5 rpg) and assists (89, 2.6 apg), third in scoring (11.0 ppg) and fourth in minutes (28.5 mpg) while helping the Musketeers post a 22-12 record (13-7 BIG EAST) and advance to the NCAA Tournament Round of 64. He converted 53.2-percent (134-252) from the floor and 81.7-percent (98-120) from the free throw line. Swain reached double figures in scoring 22 times, including 13 of the last 16 games to close the season, and posted three double-doubles on the year. He recorded a career-best 27 points (10-17 FG, 3-5 threes, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in 30 minutes during the NCAA First Round contest against Illinois (Mar. 21). Swain registered six steals in the home victory over Butler (Feb. 18), marking the most steals by a Xavier player since Paul Scruggs had six against Cleveland State on Mar. 15, 2022.
As a freshman in 2023-24, Swain earned BIG EAST All-Freshman Team honors while playing in 29 games (three starts) and averaging 4.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per contest. He converted 45.9-percent (51-111) from the field and 81.3-percent (26-32) from the free throw line. Swain missed the final five games of the season after having a successful appendectomy procedure on Mar. 4. He reached double figures in scoring three times, including a season-high 15 points (4-6 FG, 2-3 threes, 5-6 FT) in 26 minutes during the home win against Jacksonville (Nov. 10).
Swain was a four-year letterwinner at Africentric Early College in Columbus, Ohio, who played for coach Mike Bates. He was tabbed the No. 87 prospect by 247 Sports and No. 92 by ESPN in the Class of 2023 national rankings. A two-time state of Ohio Division III Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons, Swain averaged 18.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 3.2 blocks per game as a senior while leading his team to a district championship and the Ohio Division III Final Four. He was named the Central District D3 Player of the Year and earned a spot on the District 10 Coaches Association Division II-III-IV Super Team. Swain averaged 20.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.8 blocks and 3.6 steals per contest as a junior while earning Central District D3 Player of the Year and District 10 Coaches Association Division 3 Player of the Year accolades as a junior. He posted 32 points and 13 rebounds in Africentric's state semifinal victory against Ottawa-Glandorf. Swain averaged 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals while earning honorable mention all-state and first-team all-city honors in his sophomore season. He averaged 9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a freshman and claimed honorable mention all-city accolades.
