Rowing has NCAA-best 14 athletes competing at U-23 World Championships

The 2025 U-23 World Rowing Championships are set for July 23-27 in Poland.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Rowing has an NCAA-best 14 student-athletes competing at the 2025 U-23 World Rowing Championships on July 23-27 in Poznan, Poland. The 14 athletes will represent seven countries later this week.
"It's great to see so many of our athletes racing for their national teams this summer," Texas head coach Dave O'Neill said. "In fact, Texas athletes make up a significant portion of the squad for many countries. They're racing in a variety of boat classes and will go head-to-head in a few occasions. I wish them all the best and look forward to seeing them on campus next month."
The 14 athletes participating include Taryn Kooyers (USA 8+), Allie Alton (USA 4-), Phoebe Wise (USA 4-), Holly Davis (Ireland 1x), Giulia Orefice (Italy 8+), Abby Dawson (Great Britain 8+), Rhiannon Luke (Great Britain (2-), Paula Becher (Germany 8+), Nike Utesch (Germany 4-), Chloe Cooper (Australia 8+), Lucy Searle (Australia 8+), Imy Grey (Australia 8+), Ilva Boone (Netherlands 2-) and Marg Van der Wal (2-).
In addition to the 14 athletes, Texas Associate Head Coach Gia Doonan is on the USA coaching staff and working with the W8+ crew.
Of the fourteen athletes racing, one recently graduated (Taryn Kooyers) and two (Nike Utesch and Giulia Orefice) will start this fall. Van der Wal and Boone were six and five seats in the Texas I Eight and are racing together in the NED pair. Three of the Eights are scheduled to be stroked by Longhorns (Australia, Germany, Italy). Additionally, Dawson looks to defend her 2024 World Title in with the Great Britain Eight.
