Women's Cross Country wins UIW 5K Invitational

Elizabeth Pickett earns the women's 5K title with a time of 17:10.3.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas Women's Cross Country team won the UIW Invitational 5K led by senior Elizabeth Pickett's first-place performance. The women totaled 17 points in their second win of the season behind Pickett's time of 17:10.3, registering an average pace of 5:32 per mile. Junior Brighton Mooney was the runner-up with a time of 17:31.2, followed by sophomore Sydni Wilkins in third at 17:38.1.
The Longhorns then claimed the fifth through 10th place finishes, highlighted by sophomores Kaylin Rendon's 16-second personal best time of 17:46.8 and Isabel Conde de Frankenberg's 47-second PB at 18:01.7.
On the men's side, freshman Aidan Torres was the top finisher for the second meet in a row. Torres completed the four-mile race in 19:15.4, averaging a 4:49 pace. Torres finished second overall followed by senior Nathanael Berhane in third at 19:20.0. Freshman Joaquin de la Cruz was 11th in 20:02.6 and sophomore Zain Hamdani was 20th in 20:28.6.
After misdirection on the course, Hudon Bennett, Hudson Heikkinen and Trey Rios ran an extra loop on the course during the competition. Despite the added course, the men finished second overall with 67 points.
