Ryan Crouser wins third outdoor world shot put title

Crouser becomes first American to win six world titles in one individual event
TOKYO – Longhorn Legend Ryan Crouser made history on Saturday morning winning his sixth shot put global title at the 2025 World Athletics Outdoor Championships. Crouser is the first American to win three titles at both the Olympic and Outdoor Worlds in any individual event.
Crouser won his third-straight world title on the first day of the World Championships on his fifth-round throw with a heave of 22.34m. In his first competition in five months after injury, Crouser needed just one throw to qualify for the final (21.37m).
He added throws of 21.41m, 21.99m and 21.79m on his way to his third World Title. Crouser is now the fourth American to win six global titles in any individual event joining Carl Lewis (long jump), Michael Johnson (400m) and Christian Taylor (triple jump).
Texas Ex Tripp Piperi also made it to his first World Championships and final in shot put finishing sixth overall for Team USA with a throw of 21.50m. He also needed just one throw to make the final with his put of 21.47m.
Tara Davis-Woodhall of Team USA posted the top qualifying mark in the women's long jump at 6.88m. Chantel Malone of the British Virgina Islands also qualified for the final with the 10th-best jump at 6.62m. Ackelia Smith finished 26th with her jump of 6.34m and Tyra Gitten was 32nd at 6.05m. Davis-Woodhall and Malone will compete in the final on Sunday morning.
Olympic 100-meter champion Julien Alfred will compete in Sunday's 100m semis after cruising to the fastest qualifying time at 10.93. Alfred is in search of her first World Outdoor title, having won the 60-meter indoor title in 2023.
Freshman Conor Kelly competed in the mixed 4x400 relay for Ireland and the team finished 11th in the semis with a time of 3:13.59.
