Madison Booker leads Texas with 24 points.
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 4 Texas women's basketball team fell on the road at No. 2 South Carolina 68-65 Thursday at Colonial Life Arena.
Madison Booker led Texas (18-2, 3-2) with 24 points and Rori Harmon (16) and Jordan Lee (10) also scored in double figures for the Longhorns. Booker reached 20 or more points for the eighth time this season and the 36th time in her career at Texas.
Texas opened the game with a pair of free throws made by Harmon. Booker (7) and Harmon (6) combined for 13 points for the Longhorns in the opening quarter. Texas did not allow a field goal in the last 7:58 minutes to the Gamecocks while forcing six turnovers in the quarter. The Longhorns utilized an 8-0 run over 1:31 to extend their lead to seven points. Harmon ended the half with a game-leading 12 points.
South Carolina shot 63.6 percent from the field in the third quarter and 50 percent from the field in the final quarter. The Longhorns took a 49-48 lead going into the fourth quarter and South Carolina outscored the Longhorns 20-16 in the fourth period.
With South Carolina leading 58-57 Madina Okot made a 3-pointer that put South Carolina up 61-57 with 3:32 to play.
Texas has played South Carolina twice this season with the two games being decided by a total of five points.
Up next the Longhorns will host Texas A&M on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 3:00 p.m. CT at Moody Center. The game will be televised on SEC Network.
