Miller earns career win No. 500 as Men's Basketball rallies for 79-69 victory at Oklahoma

Swain posts a double-double with 18 points, 10 boards and six assists to lead the Longhorns to their seventh consecutive victory in Norman.
NORMAN, Okla. — Junior guard/forward Dailyn Swain registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a game-high six assists to pace Texas (13-9, 4-5 SEC) to a 79-69 victory at Oklahoma (11-11, 1-8 SEC) in Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday afternoon. Texas Head Coach Sean Miller earned his 500th career victory as a collegiate head coach and has now posted an overall mark of 500-205 in 21 seasons.
The win marked the seventh consecutive victory for the Longhorns in Norman, and Texas has now won nine of the last 10 overall meetings against the Sooners. The Longhorns claimed their largest comeback victory of the season, as Texas trailed by as much as 14 points (23-9) at the 9:38 mark of the first half. UT later faced a 61-55 deficit at the 8:37 mark of the second half, before closing the game on a 24-8 run.
Swain paced five Longhorns in double-figure scoring on the afternoon, as he converted 5-of-9 field goals and 8-of-9 free throws while adding three steals in 37 minutes. Sophomore Matas Vokietaitis tallied 14 points (7-9 FG) and six rebounds in 24 minutes, and junior Camden Heide posted 13 points (5-6 FG, 3-4 threes) in 22 minutes. Senior Jordan Pope recorded 12 points (4-9 FG) in 31 minutes, and junior Simeon Wilcher added 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 threes), two boards, two assists, one block and one steal in 23 minutes off the bench.
After a pair of Swain free throws evened the score at 2-2 at the 18:31 mark, the Sooners went on a 15-2 run over the next four-plus minutes to build a 17-4 cushion following a Derrion Reid layup with 14:15 left. Oklahoma took a 23-9 lead after a pair of Dayton Forsythe free throws at the 9:38 mark, before the Longhorns used a 9-0 spurt to pull to within 23-18 following a Tramon Mark layup with 6:57 remaining.
The Sooners increased their advantage to 28-20 after a Nijel Pack three-pointer at the 5:24 mark, before Texas went on a 10-2 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes to tie the score at 30-30 following a Chendall Weaver free throw with 47 seconds left. Oklahoma answered with a Xzayvier Brown three-pointer with 18 seconds remaining to take a 33-30 lead into the break.
The Longhorns took their first lead of the contest at 41-40 after a pair of Swain free throws at the 15:51 mark. A Pope layup evened the score at 47-47 with 12:54 left, but Oklahoma used a 9-3 spurt over the next two-and-a-half minutes to build a 56-50 cushion following a Pack jumper at the 10:22 mark.
The Sooners grabbed a 61-55 advantage after a Brown three-pointer with 8:37 remaining, before the Longhorns responded with a 7-0 run to take a 62-61 lead following a Swain dunk at the 6:34 mark. A Brown put-back on Oklahoma's next possession gave the Sooners a 63-62 cushion with 5:55 left, but that would mark OU's last lead of the afternoon. Texas answered with a 13-4 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes to build a 75-67 advantage after a Swain jumper at the 1:32 mark. The Longhorns hit 4-of-4 free throws in the final 44 seconds to seal the victory.
Texas returns to action when it hosts South Carolina on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Tip is set for 6 p.m. Central in Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by SEC Network.
