Sophomore Jeremiah Braswell split a pair of singles matches in qualifying.
Fort Worth – Texas Men's Tennis competed at day one of the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth on Thursday as sophomore Jeremiah Braswell split a pair of singles matches in qualifying.
After not playing last season as a freshman, Braswell earned his first collegiate win with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Paxton Oshea of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Later in the day, he fell to Agustin Salazar of Incarnate Word, 6-1, 6-1.
Both the singles and doubles main draws will begin Friday, starting with doubles where both Texas pairs received a first-round bye into the round of 32. Both the 3 seed of sophomores Abel Forger and Mariano Dedura-Palomero and the 7 seed of freshman Tomasz Berkieta and sophomore Lucas Marionneau will play at 10 a.m. CT.
In singles, three Longhorns will take the court at 12:30 p.m. CT as the 9 seed No. 88 Berkieta faces Gabriel Porras of Rice, Dedura-Palomero plays Timeo Bretin of UTSA, and No. 97 Marionneau takes on Fabian Anthin of Lamar. Then at 2 p.m. the 5 seed No. 43 Ojakaar will face Thiago Guglieri of Texas Tech, and the 8 seed No. 70 Forger will play Rafael Botran of Rice.
