No. 1 Men’s Swimming and Diving earns sweep over No. 2 Indiana and No. 16 Northwestern

Senior Rex Maurer and junior Luke Forester each claimed a pair of individual wins during Friday’s tri-meet.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming and Diving team recorded wins over No. 2 Indiana (177.5-122.5) and No. 16 Northwestern (224-76) in a tri-meet on Friday afternoon at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
In the lap pool, the teams competed in the short course meters (25m) format – as opposed to the default short course yards – as athletes prepare for their short course World Championship trials. Texas saw three athletes (senior Will Modglin in the 50 back, freshman Kuzey Tuncelli in the 800 free, and sophomore Campbell McKean in the 200 breast) achieve A qualifying standards for the World Aquatics Swimming Championships.
Senior Rex Maurer claimed individual wins in the 200 free (1:44.08) and the 400 free (3:44.05), and junior Luke Forester posted a pair of victories on the 1-meter (360.15) and 3-meter (386.95) diving boards. Modglin added an individual win in the 100 back (50.45) and swam the leadoff leg on the victorious 200 medley relay. Tuncelli earned his first collegiate individual win in the 800 free (7:42.39).
The Longhorns will compete in the USA Swimming Short Course Worlds Selection Meet on Oct. 28-31 at Westmont, Va.
Meet Highlights
- The Texas 'A' quartet of Will Modglin, Nate Germonprez, Rowan Cox, and Rafael Fente-Damers won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:33.20. Modglin's leadoff split of 23.37 met the A qualifying standard in the 50 back for the World Championships.
- Freshman Kuzey Tuncelli won the 800 free (7:42.39), meeting the A qualifying standard for the World Championships. Sophomore Aiden Hammer placed second in a time of 7:45:79, securing a B qualifying standard for the Worlds.
- Senior Rex Maurer claimed victory in the 200 free (1:44.08) while achieving the B qualifying standard for the World Championships. Freshman Laon Kim took second (1:44.12) while achieving the B qualifying standard.
- Modglin won the 100 back with a B qualifying time (50.45).
- Germonprez claimed victory in the 100 breast (57.70), while senior Will Scholtz placed second (58.70). Both secured the B qualifying standard for the Worlds.
- Junior Cooper Lucas claimed second in the 200 butterfly (1:53.21), while Peck placed third (1:55.03). Both athletes met the B qualifying time for the World Championships.
- Fente-Damers took second in the 50 free (21.67) securing the B qualifying time for the Worlds.
- Sophomore Fente-Damers claimed victory in the 100 free (47.15) and Kim placed third (47.80). Both swimmers met the B qualifying standard for the World Championships.
- Modglin secured second in the 200 back (1:53.96) while meeting the B qualifying standard for the Worlds.
- Sophomore Campbell McKean took second in the 200 breast (2:04.95) securing the A qualifying standard.
- Maurer claimed victory in the 400 free (3:44.05) while Cooper placed third (3:45.61). Both achieved the B qualifying standard for the World Championships.
- Junior Ksawery Masiuk took second in the 100 butterfly (51.41), and Cox finished third (51.42). Masiuk and Cox met the B qualifying standard for the Worlds.
- Maurer placed second in the 200 IM (1:55.37), while Mladenovic took third (1:56.70). Both secured the B qualifying standard.
- The Texas 'A' quartet of Fente-Damers, Germonprez, Modglin, and Kim claimed victory in the 400 free relay (3:09.41). Fente-Damers' leadoff split (47.63) met the B qualifying standard for 100 free for the Worlds.
- In diving action, junior Luke Forester claimed victory on the 3-meter board (386.95).
- Forester won the 1-meter (360.15) while junior Jacob Jones placed second (331.20)
