Giavonna Meeks, Kelsey Daniel earn SEC weekly field honors after standout performances in Arkansas
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Track & Field's Giavonna Meeks and Kelsey Daniel earned SEC Field Athlete of the Week honors following standout performances at the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas, the conference announced on Tuesday. The recognition brings the Longhorns' weekly SEC honors total to four this season for the 15th-ranked men and 18th-ranked women.
Meeks claimed Women's Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the second time this season after breaking her own school record in the weight throw for the third consecutive week. She delivered a mark of 24.49 meters (80-4.25), improving her program record and moving to No. 7 on the NCAA all-time performer list. The throw ranks as the 18th-best mark in collegiate history. Currently the No. 2 performer in the NCAA this season, Meeks owns each of the top 15 throws in Texas history.
Daniel earned Men's Co-Field Athlete of the Week honors after posting a pair of top-five NCAA performances. On Friday, Daniel matched the second-best long jump in Texas history with an 8.14m (26-8.50), moving to No. 3 in the NCAA this season. He followed that a triple jump of 16.50m (54-1.75) on Saturday, climbing to No. 5 on the Texas all-time performer list and No. 4 in the NCAA this season.
Next on the docket for the Longhorns will be the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships at Texas A&M from Feb. 26-28.
