Longhorns earn second weekly honor, first field athlete of the week
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 10 Texas women's weight thrower, Giavonna Meeks, was named the Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced. It marks the second weekly SEC honor for the Longhorns this season.
Meeks made it back-to-back weekends setting the Texas weight throw program record. The junior threw for 23.65m (77-7.25) to win the Razorback Invitational and broke last weekend's record mark. Meeks now owns the top 10 throws in Texas history.
The winning throw ranks second in the NCAA and first in the SEC this season. She's the only athlete in the SEC over 23 meters.
The Longhorns will split competition on Feb. 13-14, traveling to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the David Emery Valentine Invitational in Boston.
