Coupe is the 17th member of Texas’ 2026 recruiting class and will join the Longhorns in the fall.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Rowing head coach Dave O'Neill announced the signing of Freya Coupe to the 2026 recruiting class on Monday. Coupe is part of the 17-person class that will join the Longhorns next fall.
"I'm thrilled Freya will be joining our team in the fall," said O'Neill. "While she came to us late in the recruiting process, I have been really impressed with her maturity and demeanor. She has had some outstanding results, and it was great to see her Great Britain Eight race so well in Trakia. I expect Freya to have an immediate impact on our team, and everyone is looking forward to working with her."
Coupe is a native of Poole, United Kingdom, and attends the Canford School. As a member of Great Britain's Junior World Championships team, Coupe helped the U19 Great Britain Eight win gold at the 2025 Junior World Championships in Trakia, Lithuania. She also recently won the British Indoor Rowing Championships in December, clocking in at 7:09.7 in the Girls 2000m.
Coupe is part of a recruiting class that features student-athletes from seven different states (Colorado, Louisiana, Minnesota, New York, Oklahoma, Texas and Washington) and seven different countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, The Netherlands and United Kingdom.
The Texas Longhorns will scrimmage vs. SMU on March 8 in Austin, Texas. Texas will officially open the 2026 season at the San Diego Crew Classic on March 28-29 at Crown Point on Mission Bay in San Diego. More details on start times and event information will be communicated at a later date.
