Women’s Basketball outlasts Kentucky, 64-53

Longhorns force 23 turnovers on their way to 40th straight home victory.
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 4 Texas Women's Basketball team held Kentucky to 12 points in the final quarter and picked up a 64-53 win on Monday at Moody Center.
Justice Carlton led Texas (23-2, 8-2) with 17 points and Jordan Lee added 13 points. Kyla Oldacre tallied nine points and six rebounds for the Longhorns.
Carlton led the first quarter scoring 12 points and the Texas defense forced five turnovers. Carlton ended the first quarter with a steal, and the Longhorns led 23-19.
Kyla Oldacre started the second quarter strong, causing a jump ball for Texas. Both Kentucky and Texas' offense traded points back and forth, keeping the game within a four point range for the majority of the half. With six minutes left the Longhorns went on a 10-0 run, forcing seven turnovers. Rori Harmon ended the quarter with a pullup jumper as Texas held Kentucky to zero points for seven minutes, finishing the half 38-28.
Beginning the third period the Longhorns defense forced two offensive fouls on the Wildcats. Carlton led the team at the end of the quarter with 14 points and Oldacre added five rebounds, making the score 48-41.
Kentucky cut the Texas lead to three at 53-50 with 4:46 to play in the final period. The Longhorns would hold the Wildcats without a field goal the rest of the way and scored 11 of the final 14 points of the game.
Up next the Longhorns will travel to Nashville to face No. 5 Vanderbilt on Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. CT at Memorial Gymnasium. The game will be televised on SECN+.
