AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 3 Texas Women's Basketball team cruised past Oregon with a 100-58 win on Sunday at Moody Center. Madison Booker set a new single-game NCAA Tournament record for the Texas Longhorns with 40, surpassing the 32-point performances by Heather Schreiber (vs LSU in 2003) and Clarissa Davis (vs. Western Kentucky in 1986).
In her last home game, Rori Harmon put up nine points, five steals, and six rebounds. Jordan Lee added 17 points with Teya Sidberry's 11-point effort. Texas held 28-14 advantage in bench points and a 22-8 advantage in assists.
The Longhorns started the game with a mid-range jump shot by Booker, who ended the quarter scoring 14 points while shooting 6-for-8. Rori Harmon tallied four steals while the Texas defense forced six turnovers on the Ducks.
To begin the second quarter, Texas went on a 6-0 run while holding Oregon to no field goals (0-for-7) for 3:27 minutes. Sophomore guard Aaliyah Crump sunk a three-pointer to extend the lead to 15; to help the Longhorns end the first half with a total of 45 points.
Texas concluded the first half with 10 steals and shot 67 percent from the 3-point line and scored 15 points off turnovers. Booker ended the half with 19 points while Harmon dished out nine assists.
The Longhorns defense stayed strong throughout the third quarter, holding the Ducks to a scoring drought for 2:18 minutes, only allowing two free-throws for the first 4:30 minutes of the half. Texas went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead, only giving up eight points this quarter. The Longhorns outscored the Ducks 28-8 in the third quarter, with Booker contributing 13 points (5-for-7).
Texas went on a 7-0 run to open the fourth quarter. Lee and Booker were the leading scorers of the quarter, adding eight points each. Sarah Graves put up four points towards the end of the fourth as the Longhorns sealed the win.
Up next, the Longhorns will face the winner between No. 5 seed Kentucky and No. 4 seed West Virginia in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, March 28. Tip-off time is to be determined.
