Austin – Texas Men's Tennis freshman Lucas Marionneau was named SEC Men's Tennis Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. It marks the first weekly SEC honor of his career and the fourth for the Longhorns this season with Sebastian Gorzny twice named Player of the Week and Kalin Ivanovski chosen as Freshman of the Week earlier this season.
Marionneau went a combined 3-1, including two straight-sets singles victories, in helping Texas to a pair of road wins – 4-2 at No. 27 Kentucky and a 4-0 sweep at No. 13 Vanderbilt.
Against the Wildcats, Marionneau provided the Longhorns a 2-1 lead with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Mikael Arseneault at No. 6 on the way to the win. Prior to that, he and partner Sebastian Gorzny held a break lead late in their doubles match but narrowly fell in a tiebreaker to Martin Breysach and Charlelie Cosnet, 7-6 (5), at No. 2.
Two days later against the Commodores, Marionneau clinched the sweep with a 6-1, 7-6 (2) victory over Hugo Coquelin at No. 6, while he and Gorzny clinched doubles in the deciding match, 6-4, over Martinez Gomez and Danil Panarin at No. 2.
Marionneau has now won four-straight and 12 of his last 13 dual match singles decisions and is 14-2 in those this season, while he is 22-9 overall this year. He is also 10-10 in dual match doubles contests.
