Vokietaitis posts a team-high 21 points in Wednesday night’s loss.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Sophomore center Matas Vokietaitis posted a team-high 21 points, but Texas (18-12, 9-8 SEC) dropped a 105-85 decision at No. 20/19 Arkansas (22-8, 12-5 SEC) on Wednesday night in Bud Walton Arena. The Longhorns allowed opponent team season highs in points, field goals made (35-60) and three-point field goal percentage (57.9, 11-19) during the loss.
Vokietaitis converted 9-of-15 field goals and added seven rebounds, two assists and one block in 24 minutes. Graduate Tramon Mark recorded 18 points (6-12 FG, 1-2 threes, 5-7 FT) and three assists without a turnover in 28 minutes, and junior Dailyn Swain registered 16 points (5-10 FG, 1-1 threes, 5-7 FT), nine rebounds and six assists in 34 minutes. Sophomore Nic Codie tallied a season-high 11 points (5-8 FG), seven rebounds and two assists in a career-best 27 minutes, and senior Chendall Weaver added 11 points (5-10 FG) and four rebounds in 27 minutes.
After a Swain layup pulled Texas to within 6-4 at the 17:47 mark, the Razorbacks went on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to build a 19-4 advantage following a Malique Ewin dunk with 13:59 remaining. The Longhorns scored six-straight points to trim the margin to 19-10 after a pair of Swain free throws at the 12:36 mark.
Arkansas extended its cushion to 34-19 following a Trevon Brazile dunk with 9:18 left, before Texas used a 7-2 spurt over the next four minutes to cut the deficit to 36-26 after a Vokietaitis tip-in at the 5:12 mark. A Weaver layup trimmed the margin to 41-30 with 3:11 remaining, but the Razorbacks closed the half on a 15-4 run to take a 56-34 lead into the break.
Arkansas increased its advantage to 72-44 following a Darius Acuff Jr. three-pointer at the 15:21 mark. The Razorbacks took a 98-76 lead after a D.J. Wagner three-pointer with 4:06 left. Texas used an 8-1 run over the next two minutes to cut the deficit to 99-84 following a Swain jumper with 2:16 remaining but that was as close as the Longhorns could get down the stretch.
Texas concludes the regular season when it hosts Oklahoma on Saturday, March 7. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Central in Moody Center, and the game will be televised nationally by SEC Network.
