Veteran fundraiser who has been a key member of Longhorn Foundation for more than three years, takes over leadership of that area in Texas Athletics.
AUSTIN, Texas — A veteran of more than 20 years in collegiate athletics fundraising, including the last three in Texas Athletics, Carly Northup has been named Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for the Longhorn Foundation, it was announced Wednesday by UT VP and Lois and Richard Folger Athletics Director Chris Del Conte. Northup was elevated from her role as Senior Associate Athletics Director for the Longhorn Foundation into the role previously held by Andrew Hamor, who departed for another position.
"Carly has earned this leadership opportunity with the hard work, dedication and extraordinary success she's played such a critical role in since joining our Longhorn Foundation," Del Conte said. "She is forward thinking, strategic, and is a proven member of the Texas Athletics staff. Carly has earned our complete confidence as she continues to grow and expand the tremendous philanthropic success of the Longhorn Foundation, an organization with a rich and proud history in Texas Athletics. We're thrilled to begin a new era with Carly Northup leading our efforts in that area, and I'm excited to see her take the reins and continue building on this incredible momentum."
Since joining Texas Athletics in September 2022 as Senior Associate Athletics Director, Northup has worked in lockstep with leadership on all aspects of the department's fundraising efforts — helping oversee, plan and execute the vision and mission of the Longhorn Foundation. She played a vital role managing day-to-day operations, while directly overseeing revenue-generating initiatives and providing leadership to the major gifts and the annual fund teams.
"I'm incredibly grateful to Chris Del Conte for the opportunity to serve in this role and to continue supporting our Longhorn student-athletes at the highest level," Northup said. "The strength of the Longhorn Foundation is built on the passion and generosity of tremendous supporters and an exceptional team, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside them to create transformative opportunities for Texas student-athletes to succeed academically and athletically."
Since 2022, the Longhorn Foundation has recorded its highest number of donors, major gift pledges and total dollars raised. In 2023-24, Texas Athletics reached a historic level with $198M of new gifts and pledges, including $74.4 million in cash to the annual fund — the most since the Foundation began in 1986. The following year, the Longhorn Foundation saw records broken again reaching nearly 26,000 members, $80M in the annual fund, and continued capitalization of the United Texas Circle. The United Texas Circle is a signature initiative created to encourage philanthropic leadership and multi-year commitments and has resulted in a record level of six-figure-plus gift commitments. In the three years Northup has worked in the Longhorn Foundation, the team has broken records on an annual basis, averaging more than $170 million each year and bringing in more than $520 million in total gifts to Texas Athletics.
Prior to The University of Texas, Northup came to the Forty Acres with a proven and highly successful track record in collegiate fundraising. She served as the Associate Vice President/Senior Associate Athletics Director at Rutgers University and also held roles at Virginia Tech, the University of Missouri and West Virginia University. A graduate of Liberty University, she earned master's in Sport Management and Administration from West Virginia University.
Founded in 1986 by legendary athletics director DeLoss Dodds, the Longhorn Foundation has long been an invaluable asset to UT's student-athletes, coaches and programs. Through the generosity of its members, Texas Athletics is able to invest in its hundreds of student-athletes — supporting their passion, growth, character and competitive excellence at a best-in-class level — build and enhance its world-class facilities, while also investing in fan amenities to amplify the gameday experience for Longhorn Nation.
