No. 3 Beach Volleyball takes down No. 11 Grand Canyon 3-0 in MPSF Championship opener

The Longhorns advance to face No. 1 UCLA on Thursday for a spot in semifinals.
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – No. 3 Texas Beach Volleyball, the tournament's No. 3 seed, defeated No. 11 Grand Canyon, the No. 6 seed, 3-0, on Wednesday to open the MPSF Championship at Spiker Beach.
In the championship's dual format, the first team to secure three court victories clinches the match, and Texas (No. 3 nationally) took control early.
The Longhorns struck first on Court 3, where Emma Grace Robertson and Lily Davis earned a 21-18, 21-14 win to give Texas a 1-0 lead.
Texas pushed ahead 2-0 on Court 1 as Brecht Piersma and Katie Hashman secured a 21-19, 21-16 victory, putting the Longhorns one point away from advancing.
With multiple courts still in progress, Texas closed out the dual on Court 5. Macey Butler and Karin Zolnercikova edged a tightly contested first set before sealing the clincher, 29-27, 21-18, to secure the 3-0 decision.
Court 4 finished moments later, as Chloe Charles and Savannah Thomas completed a 21-19, 21-13 win. On Court 2, Anna Pavelkova and Kacka Pavelkova had their match halted with Texas leading 3-2 in the third set after splitting the first two, 17-21, 21-15.
With the win, Texas advances to face No. 1 nationally ranked UCLA, the tournament's No. 2 seed, at 1 p.m. CT (11 a.m. PT) on Thursday. The winner will move on to the MPSF Championship semifinals on Friday, while the loser will play again at 2 p.m. PT (4 p.m. CT).
