The linebacker went 130th overall in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Miami, Fla. – Texas linebacker Trey Moore was taken 130th overall in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
Moore is the second Texas linebacker selected in this year's draft, joining Anthony Hill Jr., who was chosen in the second round (No. 60 overall), and he becomes the fourth Longhorn linebacker selected over the last four drafts. The pick also gives Texas at least three overall draftees for the fourth-straight year and six of the last seven.
It marks the first time since 2012 that Texas has had multiple linebackers selected in the same draft when Keenan Robinson was selected in the fourth round by Washington and Emmanuel Acho was picked in the sixth round by Cleveland. It is also just the second time since the NFL Draft moved to its current seven-round format in 1994.
It is the second-straight year a Longhorn has been drafted by the Miami Dolphins after the team selected QB Quinn Ewers in the seventh round last season. Prior to that, DB Brandon Jones had been chosen in the third round in 2020. It is the first time the Dolphins have drafted a linebacker from Texas.
"Trey made a big impact for us in a number of roles in his two years in the program," said Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian. "He's another versatile player – a guy who played off the edge for us that we worked at playing him more as an off-the-ball linebacker last year. Now he has the ability to do both, but he definitely has a skill set as a pass rusher. The Dolphins got a guy who will roll up his sleeves, get to work and be ready for any roll necessary to help the team."
Moore played in 28 games over two seasons at Texas after transferring from UTSA. He totaled 71 tackles (45 solo), 15.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and four pass breakups. During his time on the Forty Acres, the Longhorns went 23-6, advanced to the 2024 College Football Playoff semifinals and reached the 2024 SEC Championship Game after having the best regular season record in their first year in the league.
As a senior in 2025, Moore appeared in 12 games and was a finalist for the Campbell Trophy and National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. He recorded 35 tackles (22 solo), 5.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, three pass breakups, six pressures and one fumble recovery. He posted five solo tackles, including a sack, and added two tackles for loss in a road win at Kentucky.
Moore started all 16 games in 2024, helping Texas advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Longhorns finished 13-3 and earned a No. 3 final ranking. He totaled 36 tackles (23 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Moore was the only Texas defender with multiple forced fumbles and multiple fumble recoveries and one of three Longhorns to record at least 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
Including his time at UTSA, Moore played 57 career games. He set the UTSA records for single-season sacks (14/2023) and tackles for loss (18/2022) and was named the 2023 American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-AAC. In 2022, he was named a Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, The Athletic and College Football News. He was also a Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection and honorable mention all-conference performer.
On the call and the moment:
It felt great, just all the work that I put in, and it's been a long time coming since I got into college, but I was also a little surprised. If I were to tell you what teams I thought I would go to going into it, the Dolphins probably wouldn't have been one of my guesses, but it's definitely a blessing. I'm glad to be Miami and I'm excited to get to work.

I'm glad to be in Miami and I'm excited to get to work.
On the reaction of his family:
It was at a time where some people had kind of gotten up and were walking around, and we weren't sitting down it came at a time, of course, where nobody was really ready for it to come, but as soon as somebody called my phone, everybody just went quiet and everybody was waiting to see who it was. Then I told them it was Miami and everybody started screaming. My mom screaming the loudest because she actually grew up in Miami. She's a Dolphins fan, so she's definitely excited. So yeah, it was a good time.
On going to Miami with Michael Taaffe and DJ Campbell along with Quinn Ewers being there:
I mean, that's great. They're great guys. It's going to be incredible to just have that camaraderie already established with those guys and be able to work with them and start the beginning of our careers together in the league. It's going to be fun.
On how well prepared he feels coming out of Texas:
I definitely feel very prepared. Just the way we worked at Texas, and the kind of the values that we established, and the culture that was there, I feel like that prepared me. The scale of Texas sports – that program is on the NFL type of scale in its own right, so I feel like I won't be surprised with what I walk into.
On who he has talked to of Texas teammates and coaches:
I haven't talked to many people yet. I talked to Taaffe and DJ (Campbell), obviously, a little bit. I talked to the Dolphins head coach and some of the staff members over there, but yeah, I haven't really gotten to make many calls yet. I just got drafted, but I'm always expecting a lot more coming.
On his message to Longhorn Nation:
I'm just so grateful and appreciative of them taking me in. Obviously, as a transfer it's a little bit different than when you come in as out of high school. But everybody accepted me with open arms, as far as the fan base and obviously the staff and everybody in the program. So, I'm very appreciative of them and all the support they've had for me, and obviously, I hope that they can continue that support throughout my career.
