No. 2 Beach Volleyball’s Metzger named AVCA Coach of the Year

Metzger becomes first three-time recipient of award.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 2 Texas Beach Volleyball head coach Stein Metzger was named the AVCA Collegiate Beach Coach of the Year, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Friday.
Metzger becomes the first coach to earn the honor three times, including two previous selections during his tenure at UCLA.
In his third season leading the Longhorns, Metzger was also named MPSF Coach of the Year after guiding Texas to a 26-6 record and its first conference championship in its inaugural season in the league.
Metzger holds a 61-24 record at Texas, good for a .718 winning percentage. The Longhorns enter their second NCAA Championship appearance as the No. 2 overall seed, the highest in program history.
Texas will face No. 15 seed Georgia State on Friday at 1 p.m. CT at Gulf Shores, Alabama. The match will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPN+. The winner will advance to face either No. 10 seed TCU or No. 7 seed Loyola Marymount.
