However, the Longhorns followed with three singles victories by sophomores No. 57 Eszter Meri at No. 3 and No. 3 Carmen Herea at No. 1, along with freshman No. 104 Elizabeth Ionescu at No. 4 to establish a 3-1 lead. The Red Raiders put one more point up at No. 2, but freshman Kate Mansfield clinched the overall match with a win at No. 5.
After doubles, Meri was first off the singles court, producing an efficient 6-0, 6-1 win over Elena Daskalova at No. 3. Herea added another decisive result with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Hailey Murphy at No. 1, and then Ionescu matched Meri's score with her own efficient 6-0, 6-1 win over Ella Brownback at No. 4.
The remaining three matches all extended into third sets with Texas Tech picking up its other point as freshman No. 6 Anastasia Abbagnato was downed by Kate Dmitrichenko, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2.
In the other two matches, it was the Longhorns who rallied from a set down in both with Manfield getting home first. She completed her comeback for a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Havana Kadi at No. 5 that clinched the overall match and sent her teammates streaming onto her court.
The lone unfinished contest was at No. 6 where sophomore Salma Drugdova had just taken a break lead at the start of her third set, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 1-0, against Mariia Hlahola.
Earlier in doubles, the No. 71 pair of Abbagnato and Ionescu fell to Murphy and Dmitrichenko, 6-4, at No. 1. Texas responded with a win from Drugdova and Meri by the same score over Brownback and Andreea Lila at No. 2 to even the doubles contests.
That left it to No. 2 where Herea and Mansfield came up just short to Hlahola and Daskalova, 7-5. In that match, the Red Raiders had broken late for a 6-5 lead and were up 40-0 in the next game.
