Softball signs Florida State transfer Isa Torres

The D1Softball National Player of the Year, NFCA First-Team All-American, Gold Glove Award winner, ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year joins the Longhorns.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Softball has signed former Florida State infielder Isa Torres, head coach Mike White announced Thursday morning. Torres is immediately eligible with one year of eligibility remaining.
Torres is a Georgetown, Texas, native and attended Georgetown High School before spending three seasons (2024-26) at Florida State.
Torres put together a sensational junior campaign with the Seminoles in 2026 where she was D1Softball's National Player of the Year, a top-three finalist for USA Softball's National Player of the Year, an NFCA First-Team All-American, an NFCA Gold Glove winner, ACC Player of the Year, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-ACC and an ACC Championship All-Tournament Team honoree. Torres was tabbed a unanimous First-Team All-American by the NFCA, D1Softball and Softball America for the second-consecutive year. Torres also garnered CSC First-Team Academic All-America honors on June 16. Torres received Freshman All-America praise from D1Softball in 2024.
Torres had a spectacular season at the plate in 2026, batting a staggering .530 to break the Florida State program record and posting a mark that finished top-15 in NCAA single-season history. Torres hammered a career and team-high 16 home runs and 56 RBI. Torres slashed .530/.978/.591 with a 1.569 OPS. She broke program records in on-base percentage (.591), slugging percentage (.978) and runs scored (78). Her 98 hits were the second-most in single-season program history, and she set an NCAA record with 16 hits in 16-consecutive at-bats on March 8-20. She reached in 23-straight plate appearances during that stretch. She led Florida State in doubles (22), triples (7), total bases (181) and stolen bases (13). She registered 31 multi-hit games and 17 multi-RBI outings. She broke the program record for hits in a single game, going 6-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored against Coastal Carolina on March 6.
Solidifying herself as one of the nation's top defensive players, Torres did not commit an error in her first 164 chances at shortstop and ended the season with just two errors and a .989 fielding percentage. Torres helped turn 20 double plays in the infield. Across three seasons, Torres holds a .969 career fielding percentage and has committed just 18 errors in 564 chances.
Torres has a .439/.724/.484 career slash line with 261 hits, 158 RBI, 34 home runs, 39 doubles, nine triples and 52 walks. Torres has only struck out 29 times in 594 career at-bats. She also brings speed to the Longhorn lineup with 26 career stolen bases.
Torres is one of three transfer portal signings by Texas this offseason. Former Texas Tech LHP Samantha Lincoln and former Arizona State catcher/utility Samantha Swan have also signed with the Longhorns.
Torres was ranked as the ninth overall recruit in the class of 2023 according to Extra Innings Softball. She was a two-time PGF All-American in 2021-22. As a senior at Georgetown in 2023, she batted .577 with 79 hits and 68 runs. In 2022, she was named the All-Central Texas Defensive Player of the Year and landed on the Texas State All-Tournament Team. In 2021, she was named to the 5A All-State Team and was the All-District Offensive Player of the Year.
Texas is coming off back-to-back NCAA WCWS Championships. The Longhorns swept Texas Tech in two games in the Championship Series on June 3-4. It's the program's second overall national title. Texas has appeared in the WCWS Championship Series in four of the last five years. The Horns also took home the SEC Tournament Championship trophy in 2026 – the program's first SEC Tournament title and fifth overall conference tournament championship.
