Austin – Texas Men's Tennis has signed international standout Matej Dodig (MAH-tay DOH-dig) to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA), head coach Bruce Berque announced Wednesday. Dodig will join the program in the fall of 2026.
"With Matej, there is no doubt that we are adding another extremely high-level player," Berque said. "Just as important, we are adding another high character and team oriented young man. Matej will join our previous signees Tomasz Berkieta and Gabriel Debru, and together they will have a tremendous impact on our program."
A native of Osijek, Croatia, Dodig has posted career-high ATP rankings of No. 199 in singles in March 2026, and No. 356 in doubles in July 2025. He has competed in qualifying of all three Grand Slams this year, winning his opening matches at both Wimbledon and Roland Garros, while also participating at the Australian Open.
Dodig has brought home nine total pro titles, including six in singles and three in doubles, highlighted by winning the singles crown at the 2025 Trieste ATP Challenger 100. In that tournament, he emerged from qualifying and won seven-straight matches – the last six of which were in straight sets – on his way to the title. He also won the singles championship at M15s in Rovinj, Croatia, and Monastir, Tunisia, in 2024, and Kottingbrunn, Austria; Novi Sad, Serbia; and Rovinj in 2023. He has reached the semifinals of six other Challengers.
Dodig has won two Challengers in doubles, both in 2025, at the 75 in Zagreb, Croatia, and the 50 in Royan, France. He reached the semifinals of three others. His first career doubles title came in his hometown of Osijek at an M25 in 2023.
In juniors, Dodig had a high ranking of No. 30 and won seven titles with four in singles and three in doubles. All four singles crowns came in 2022, including the J4 Maribor in Serbia, and J2s in Hannover, Germany; Villach, Austria; and Piestany, Slovakia. He also won the doubles title at the J4 Maribor, along with the J2 St. Poelten in Austria in 2022, in addition to the J5 Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2021.
Dodig participated in Junior Grand Slams in both singles and doubles at Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2023. In international play, Dodig played for Team Croatia in 2026 Davis Cup play in February.
