Women’s Swimming claims pair of medals at Pan Pacific and European Championships

Gemmell earns silver medal at Pan Pac’s, while Padar wins silver medal at European Championships.
AUSTIN, Texas — Current and former University of Texas women's swimmers concluded their competitions at the European Championships (Aug. 10-16) in Paris and the Pan Pacific Championships (Aug. 12-15) in Irvine, Calif. All totaled, the Longhorns' contingency combined to record a pair of silver medals during the pair of international events.
At the Pan Pacific Championships, rising senior Erin Gemmell swam the leadoff leg (1:57.00) for Team USA on the 4x200m freestyle relay which claimed the silver medal in a time of 7:43.10. She also placed sixth in the 200m freestyle (1:56.88). Rising junior Jillian Cox placed eighth in the 1500m freestyle (16:12.25), ninth in the 800m freestyle (8:28.21) and 12th (fourth in the B final) in the 400m freestyle (4:09.30).
At the European Championships, rising sophomore Nikolett Padar swam the leadoff leg (1:57.31) for Team Hungary on the 4x200m freestyle relay which claimed the silver medal with a time of 7:49.09. Padar also placed sixth in the 200m freestyle final (1:57.29) and swam the anchor leg (53.46) for Team Hungary on the 4x100m freestyle relay which finished sixth with a time of 3:35.47. Former Longhorn Anna Elendt placed fifth in the 200m breaststroke (2:23.981), fifth in the 50m breaststroke (30.35) and seventh in the 100m breaststroke (1:06.37). She also swam the second (breaststroke) leg (1:05.83 split) for Team Germany on the 4x100 medley relay which finished fourth with a time of 3:56.21.
