Men’s Tennis advances three to ITA All-Americans qualifying second round

Tomasz Berkieta, Abel Forger and Lucas Marionneau moved on in the singles qualifying draw in Tulsa, Okla., on Monday.
Tulsa, Okla. – Texas Men's Tennis advanced three players to the second round of the singles qualifying draw on Monday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Sophomores No. 70 Abel Forger and No. 97 Lucas Marionneau, and freshman No. 88 Tomasz Berkieta all moved on with Berkieta winning his first career singles contest as a Longhorn. It was also a ranked victory as Berkieta topped No. 112 Kacper Szymkowiak of Wake Forest, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3.
Marionneau then opened his season with a Red River win over No. 115 Daniel Uta of Oklahoma, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Forger later completed the trio with another three-set win as he downed Niels Villard of Arizona State, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.
The lone defeat of the day came as Mariano Dedura-Palomero fell to No. 63 Nour Fathalla by the slimmest of margins of two tiebreakers, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3).
All four players will be in action on Tuesday with Forger taking on No. 105 Charlie Robertson of South Carolina, and Marionneau playing No. 71 Aryan Shah of Wake Forest, both at 10 a.m. CT. Dedura-Palomero will also take the court at that time on the West side of the draw against No. 107 Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida of Pepperdine. Berkieta will then take on No. 109 Ilyas Milad Fahim of Virginia Tech at 12:30 p.m. CT.
