Men’s Tennis starts main draw play at ITA All-Americans

Sophomore Abel Forger and freshman Tomasz Berkieta qualified for the main draw on Tuesday and join sophomores Gabriel Debru and Oliver Ojakaar, who had been placed in the draw.
Tulsa, Okla. – Texas Men's Tennis advanced two players to the singles main draw on Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Sophomore No. 70 Abel Forger and freshman No. 88 Tomasz Berkieta both won to move on with Forger downing No. 105 Charlie Robertson of South Carolina, 6-4, 6-1, and Berkieta defeating No. 109 Ilyas Milad Fahim of Virginia Tech, 6-4, 6-4.
Also on Tuesday, sophomore No. 97 Lucas Marionneau fell in his match to No. 71 Aryan Shah of Wake Forest, 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile, sophomore Mariano Dedura-Palomero earned a ranked win over No. 107 Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida Pepperdine, 6-3, 6-4, in the consolation west draw.
On Wednesday, Forger will next face 7 seed #11 Jakub Vrba of Arkansas at 10 a.m. CT, and Berkieta No. 89 Noa Vukadin of Clemson at 2 p.m. CT. Already selected into the main draw, sophomore and fifth-seeded No. 9 Gabriel Debru will open with No. 75 Azariah Rusher of Florida State at 10 a.m. CT, while sophomore No. 43 Oliver Ojakaar will take on No. 32 Andres Santamarta Roig of Virginia at 1:30 p.m. CT. in a rematch of No. 3 singles in last season's team National Championship Match.
Doubles play will begin later in the day with three ranked pairs for the Longhorns in 2 seed No. 5 Ojakaar and Berkieta, 7 seed No. 11 Debru and Marionneau, and No. 20 Forger and Dedura-Palomero.
Ojakaar and Berkieta will face No. 18 Toby Kodat and Charlie Camus of NC State at 5 p.m. CT, Debru and Marionneau will take on No. 24 Andrew Delgado and Noah Johnston of Georiga at 3 p.m. CT, and Forger and Dedura-Palomero will play No. 17 Eli Stephenson and Jack Loutit of Kentucky at 3:30 p.m. CT.
