Men’s Tennis advances five into second rounds of ITA All-Americans

The Longhorns had three singles players and two doubles pairs reach the second rounds of their draws on Wednesday.
Tulsa, Okla. – Texas Men's Tennis advanced three singles players and two doubles pairs to the second rounds of their draws at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., on Wednesday.
Sophomores No. 9 Gabriel Debru and No. 70 Abel Forger and freshman No. 88 Tomasz Berkieta all won in singles. Fifth-seeded Debru downed No. 75 Azariah Rusher of Florida State, 6-4, 7-5, while Forger topped 7 seed No. 11 Jakub Vrba of Arkansas by the reverse of that score, 7-5, 6-4. Berkieta then defeated No. 89 Noa Vukadin of Clemson, 7-6 (5), 6-3. However, sophomore No. 43 Oliver Ojakaar was forced to retire after one set in his match against No. 32 Andres Santamarta Roig, 4-6, ret.
On Thursday, Debru will face No. 104 Dominick Mosejczuk of Wake Forest at 10 a.m. CT, while Forger will start at the same time against No. 51 Nikita Filin of Ohio State. Berkieta will later take on No. 40 Nathan Trouve of Southern California at 12 p.m. CT.
In doubles on Wednesday, the 7 seed and No. 11 pair of Debru and sophomore Lucas Marionneau picked up Debru's first doubles victory as a Longhorn with a top-25 win over No. 24 Andrew Delgado and Noah Johnston of Georgia, 6-3, 6-3. The No. 20 duo of Forger and sophomore Mariano Dedura-Palomero advanced by topping No. 17 Eli Stephenson and Jack Loutit of Kentucky in a superbreaker, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8). Meanwhile, the second-seed No. 5 pair of Ojakaar and Berkieta came up short against No. 18 Toby Kodat and Charlie Camus of NC State, 6-4, 6-4.
Debru and Lucas Marionneau will next play No. 31 Alexander Frusina and Markus Molder of Texas A&M at 2 p.m. CT on Thursday, while Forger and Dedura-Palomero will face No. 38 Vukadin and Viktor Markov of Clemson at 5 p.m. CT.
