Women’s Tennis advances three into second rounds of ITA All-Americans

The Longhorns moved two singles players and one doubles pair into the second rounds of their draws on Wednesday.
Cary, N.C. – Texas Women's Tennis advanced two singles players and one doubles pair into the second rounds of their draws at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C., on Wednesday.
Juniors No. 2 Carmen Herea and No. 26 Rose Marie Nijkamp moved on in singles with Herea downing No. 38 Anastasiia Gureva of Georgia, 6-3, 6-0, and Nijkamp topping No. 45 Ava Esposito of Auburn, 6-4, 6-3, for her first singles win as a Longhorn. The lone defeat of the day came as junior No. 35 Eszter Meri took the first set from 2 seed No. 3 Luciana Perry of Ohio State, but eventually fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Herea will next face No. 81 Mimi Xu of Duke, while Nijkame will play No. 109 Salakthip Ounmang of Oklahoma with both on Thursday at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT. Meri will take on No. 116 Olivia Traynor of Michigan at 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT.
In doubles on Wednesday, the No. 17 duo of Herea and Nijkamp defeated No. 15 Tatum Evans and Nicole Khirin of North Carolina, 6-0, 6-4. They will take on 7 seed No. 13 Caroline McGinley and Amelie Van Impe of SMU at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT.
