Men’s Tennis’ Berkieta moves into singles round of 16 at ITA All-Americans

Freshman Tomasz Berkieta advanced in Tulsa on Thursday.
Tulsa, Okla. – Texas Men's Tennis freshman Tomasz Berkieta advanced to the singles round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday in Tulsa, Okla.
No. 88 Berkieta defeated No. 40 Nathan Trouve of Southern California, 6-4, 6-4, in the round of 32 and will next face 4 seed No. 8 Theo Papmalamis of Texas A&M on Friday at 11 a.m. CT.
Two other Longhorns fell in their singles matches on Thursday. Sophomore 5 seed No. 9 Gabriel Debru was dowend by No. 104 Dominick Mosejczuk of Wake Forest in three sets, 6-3, 1-7, 7-6 (3), while sophomore No. 70 Abel Forger was defeated by No. 51 Nikita Filin of Ohio State, 7-6 (6), 6-2. Forger will play in a consolation match on Friday against 6 seed No. 10 Matthew Forbes of the Buckeyes at 9 a.m. CT.
In doubles, Texas came up just short in a triple-tiebreaker match where the 7 seed No. 11 duo of Debru and sophomore Lucas Marionneau fell to No. 31 Alexander Frusina and Markus Molder of Texas A&M, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (9), 1-0 (13). The Longhorns had two match points in the second set tiebreaker, and later in the superbreaker, rallied from a 4-0 deficit to have four more match points before the Aggies emerged from the match.
The No. 20 pair of Forger and sophomore Mariano Dedura-Palomero later were downed by No. 38 Noa Vukadin and Viktor Markov of Clemson in another close match, 6-4, 7-5.
