Cross Country posts strong marks at Gans Creek Classic

Aidan Torres leads Longhorns with 19th-place finish as Texas posts 13 personal bests.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Texas Cross Country combined for 13 personal-best performances Friday at the Gans Creek Classic at Gans Creek Cross Country Course. The men finished 14th in the 8K with 380 points, while the women placed 20th in the 6K with 532 points.
The meet was contested on the same course that will host the Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships on Oct. 30, giving the Longhorns an early look at the championship course.
Sophomore Aidan Torres led the Texas men, finishing 19th among 254 competitors in 23:16.8. Torres steadily worked his way through the field throughout the race. He was 131st at the 1K mark before moving up to 103rd, 72nd, 60th, 33rd, 24th and 20th at successive checkpoints before crossing the finish line.
Hudson Bennett followed in 64th in 23:57.8, while freshman Kai McCullough placed 79th in 24:04.3. Joaquin De La Cruz finished 103rd in 24:18.4, followed by Zain Hamdani in 126th in 24:32.7 and Colby Huntress in 198th in 25:12.5. All six Texas men established new 8K bests.
Isabel Conde De Frankenberg paced the Longhorn women with a 53rd-place finish in 20:43.5. Aishling Callanan followed in 87th in 21:08.9, while Mia Perez placed 109th in 21:19.6.
Emma Rodriguez-Wade finished 126th in 21:29.0, followed by Grace Kowalski in 181st in 21:57.0, Lili Denton in 185th in 21:59.0 and Cara Sims in 190th in 22:05.5. McKale Lee finished 243rd in 23:19.2.
Seven of the eight Texas women posted new 6K bests, including Conde De Frankenberg, Perez, Rodriguez-Wade, Kowalski, Denton, Sims and Lee.
Texas returns to action next week at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The men's 8K is scheduled for 10:25 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 11:25 a.m..
