Women’s Tennis advances to singles, doubles semifinals at ITA All-Americans

Junior Rose Marie Nijkamp will represent the Longhorns in singles, while Nijkamp and junior Carmen Herea will do so in doubles.
Cary, N.C. – Texas Women's Tennis junior Rose Marie Nijkamp advanced to the singles semifinals and paired with junior Carmen Herea to do the same in doubles at the ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C., on Friday.
No. 26 Nijkamp, who is the 16 seed, won three matches total on the day, including two in singles, starting with No. 53 Zuzanna Kubacha of Baylor, 7-5, 6-2. She then faced No. 31 Aspen Schuman of Duke and led, 3-0, in the first set when Schuman was forced to retire. Next up for Nijkamp will be the 2 seed #3 Luciana Perry of Ohio State on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT.
Herea also played singles in the consolation bracket on Friday and defeated No. 116 Olivia Traynor of Michigan, 6-1, 6-3, in the morning, but fell to No. 16 Anastasiia Grechkina of Pepperdine, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3, after that.
Later on Friday in doubles, the No. 17 duo of Nijkamp and Herea rallied to top No. 34 Lexington Reed and Kristina Paskauskas of Texas A&M in a superbreaker, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (2), to get to the semifinals. There, they will face 6 seed No. 8 Maddy Zampardo/Susanna Maltby (UNC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.
