Blair Schaefer enters her fourth season as an Assistant Coach for Texas Women's Basketball in 2025-26. Schaefer earned special recognition from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association in 2025 as a Thirty Under 30 honoree as one of the rising stars in the coaches profession. Schaefer has played a key role in mentoring Texas All-American Madison Booker.
2024-25 was a historic season for the Longhorns as they won 35 games to set a program record for wins in the NCAA Era. Texas advanced to the Final Four for the first time in 22 years and won the SEC regular season championship in their first season in the league. Madison Booker was named the SEC Player of the Year and an Associated Press First Team All-American. Booker won the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year award for the second straight season. Rori Harmon and Taylor Jones earned WBCA All-America honorable mention honors and Jordan Lee earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
In the 2023-24 season Texas won 33 games, their most in a season since the 1985-86 season. The Longhorns won the Big 12 Tournament Championship, marking their third straight conference championship. Texas advanced to the Elite Eight for the third time in the last four seasons. Schaefer helped mentor Madison Booker, who earned WBCA All-America honors and was named the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year. Booker was also selected Big 12 Player of the Year and Big 12 Freshman of the Year.
In the 2022-23 season the Longhorns went 26-10 and captured the Big 12 regular season title, their first regular season crown since the 2003-04 season. Rori Harmon earned All-America honorable mentions honors and was selected the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Big 12 First Team honoree. Joining Harmon the All-Big 12 First Team was DeYona Gastona. Shaylee Gonzales earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team. Amina Muhammad earned selection to the Big 12 All Freshman Team.
In 2021-22, the Longhorns put together a historic 2021-22 campaign, culminating in the program claiming its first Big 12 Championship Title since 2003 and making a second-consecutive run to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.
UT finished the season 29-7 overall, which marked its highest win total since the 2015-16 season, and finished as the No. 6-ranked team in the county in the final Associated Press Top-25 poll, its highest finish since the 2003-04 season.
In 2020-21, Texas made a magical run through the NCAA Tournament, that included victories over No. 2-seed Maryland, No. 3-seed UCLA and No. 11-seed Bradley.
Schaefer, who helped build Mississippi State into a national contender as a key contributor on two NCAA Final Four teams, spent the 2019-20 season as Coordinator of Player Development with the Bulldogs.
Schaefer was a part of one of the winningest classes in program history, as her senior class posted a 126-22 record. During her four years, the Bulldogs were national finalists in 2017 and 2018 and made the NCAA Tournament every season.
As a junior, Schaefer helped lead Mississippi State to the program’s first trip to the Final Four and national championship appearance, starting three games during the tournament. Her role greatly expanded as a senior, when she started all 39 games and averaging a team-best 32.1 minutes per game. She drained 97 three-pointers on the year, which ranked second in MSU single-season history, while averaging 9.1 points per game.
The four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection was tabbed the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2017-18. During her final season with Mississippi State, Schaefer established herself as one of the team’s best defenders and earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team.
For her career, Schaefer played in 135 games and started 43. She ranked third in Mississippi State program history with a .385 three-point field-goal percentage for her career and also sits at fifth in career three-pointers made (175).
Following graduation, Schaefer worked as a broadcaster for ESPN and the SEC Network, serving as a color analyst for regular-season games. She also participated in ESPN's coverage of the NCAA Tournament.
