Melissa Perrone is in her eighth year as an assistant coach with Texas Rowing. In July of 2006, Perrone was named an assistant coach after serving as an interim assistant coach for the 2006 spring season. Prior to that, Perrone served as a volunteer coach with the UT program in 2001 and again in 2003, before rejoining the program as a volunteer in September of 2004.
Perrone assists head coach Carie Graves with the varsity and serves as the program's recruiting coordinator. In 2008, Perrone was named the CRCA South Region Assistant Coach of the Year for her role in bringing in one of the nation's top recruiting classes for the 2008-09 academic year.
Perrone was a member of the highly successful and nationally-ranked Northeastern University varsity rowing team from 1996-1999. Her sophomore year, Perrone was a member of the varsity eight that was one of the top 16 crews to be invited to the first-ever NCAA Championships in 1997.
In 1998, Perrone helped guide her team to a third-place finish at the NCAA Eastern Sprints and a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championship. That year she co-captained her team and led it to its third straight NCAA Championship appearance.
In 2000, she worked at the Boston Latin School as the head of the school's rowing program and directed all aspects of the team, including student recruitment and team development.
Prior to working as UT's interim assistant rowing coach in 2006, Perrone worked as an administrative associate in the UT Austin Division of Pharmacy Practice. She provided administrative and technical support for faculty, students and campus residents.
