DALLAS, Texas -- Junior cornerback Rod Babers (Houston, Texas) shared the Big 12 Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week award with Oklahoma State place-kicker Luke Phillips, the league announced on Monday.
Babers' block of Texas A&M punter Cody Scates in the first quarter led to UT's first touchdown in the 21-7 victory at Kyle Field. Redshirt freshman Tony Jeffery scooped up the block and raced 23 yards for the score to give the Longhorns an early 7-0 lead. It marked the second consecutive game in which the 5-foot-10, 183-pound cornerback blocked a punt. He also posted three solo tackles, a tackle for loss and a pair of pass breakups as the Longhorns limited the Texas A&M offense to only 165 yards (48 rush/117 pass).
Colorado running back Chris Brown was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Baylor strong safety Samir Al-Amin and Oklahoma State strong safety Marcus Jones shared Defensive Player of the Week honors.
